VISION

To be a world class crime research institute that contributes to the reduction of conditions and circumstances that push Batswana to commit crime.

MISSION

To contribute to the reduction of crime; and support the improvement and reform of the criminal justice system in Botswana as espoused in the 4th pillar of the VISION2036 which is to make Botswana a peaceful and free nation with progressive gorvenance.

PREFACE

BOCRI was established by Mr. Hugh Rramoapei Molale who is also the chairperson of the organization. He was inspired to do so after being requested by Botswana Prison’s Service to assist a University of Botswana Student Lecturer in doing her research dissertation on “The Stigmatization and Reintegration of Ex-Prisoners in Botswana.”

BOCRI is a trust duly registered at the Botswana High Court under Section (1) of the Trust & Property Control Act No.1 of 2018 and became compliant in September 2021. It is a response for the need to find the root cause of crime in Botswana through research.

BOCRI is also mandated to do research on Defense, Justice, Security, Peace & Democracy.

Crime is a common concern for individuals, families, communities, countries and the world at large. As the world develops and moves towards the 4th industrial revolution, crime becomes more complex and advanced, with new forms emerging and rampant spread of organized crimes. National responses that includes government, civil society and other non-governmental organizations are required to act swiftly and in unity towards crime prevention and improving criminal justice system as a whole.
